Things You Can Do for Political Funding Reform

  1. Educate Yourself

Find out about how money influences your government and the issues that you care about. Understand how we can reform our system to curb special interest influence and free our politicians to do our work, not the work of monied interests.

  2. Sign our petition and receive regular bulletins and action alerts.

  3. Tell Your Legislators what you think.

  4. Find out who your political representatives are at the federal, state and local levels. Call your legislators and tell them that you support political funding reform. Write them letters. Send them e-mails. Ask them publicly if they will support our call for a National Summit. Tell them that votes against reform will mean votes against them.

  5. Vote Reform

There are politicians from all sides of politics and in all political parties that have spoken out against money-politics. To make reform a reality, we need people in the halls of power who will be the voice of the people against the powerful lobbies. By voting for pro-reform politicians, we make a strong statement for political funding reform. Contact your legislators to find out their stance on political funding reform and let them know what you think at the ballot box.

  6. Watch the News

Read the daily news. Think about how money in politics may have influenced some of the stories the newspapers are reporting. Watch for political funding reform bills being discussed so you can let your representatives know how you feel. Send any relevant stories to DEMOCRACY WATCH so we can post them on our site.

  7. Write a Letter to the Editor

Let people in your area know why it's important to support reform, especially around the time of votes on political funding reform legislation or when fundraising scandals happen.

  8. Tell Your Friends

People are more likely to be convinced of a position by someone they trust, i.e. you. Bring the issue up in political discussions and explain why you support political funding reform.

  9. Are you a shareholder?

Find out if the company donates to political parties or candidates. Attend the AGM and ask questions and submit motions.

  10. Check out the websites of other reform organisations on our links page.
