Democracy Watch is a non-profit, non-partisan, citizens' group. We are committed to achieving sweeping reforms to dramatically curb the excessive influence of 'big interest' money on our elections and government decisions at the federal, state, and local levels.

NON PARTISAN

Does DEMOCRACY WATCH support or oppose specific political candidates? NO.

DEMOCRACY WATCH is a nonpartisan organization, and we neither support nor oppose political parties or candidates. But DEMOCRACY WATCH will regularly work with a wide variety of elected officials from all parties. We believe that the issues of concern to DEMOCRACY WATCH transcend party affiliations.

HOW IS DEMOCRACY WATCH FUNDED?

We are a non profit, voluntary organisation. We refuse to accept any donations, government grants, or financial contributions from any source. We believe that refusing to accept any such donations allows us to remain absolutely independent and to follow the truth wherever it may lead.

MISSION STATEMENT

Our MISSION is to be a potent lobby group that will:

We will foster public understanding of the burgeoning problems of political donations, how money in politics distorts public policy decision making, undermines citizens' motivation to vote, deters potentially strong candidates from running, and compromises the entire democratic system.

Expose

We will publicly expose the connections between donations and government decisions and policy outcomes.

Agitate

We will pressure politicians at all 3 levels of government and urge them to take a position in favor of reform.

We will lobby share holder groups to take action against corporate donations.

Reform

We will inform the public and our politicians about reforms in other nations focused on avoiding corruption of the electoral process.

We will lobby for a Political Donations National Summit that will focus on developing a national strategy to 'clean up' our electoral system.

DEMOCRACY WATCH will help lay the foundation for reform by working with a broad range of organizations.

RELATED ISSUES

We will also speak out on other related issues, such as governments misappropriating public money for party political purposes (eg: public funds being misused for political 'slush funds', political advertising campaigns, etc.)
